KRISHNA STEALS GOPI'S GARMENTS
Artist: Jadurani Devi Dasi
The young gopis of Vrindavana were in love with Krishna and wanted to marry Him. They
worshiped the Goddess Katyayani (Durga) to get Krishna as their husband. After a month of worship and eating simply, Krishna
appeared before them to bestow His causeless mercy. At this time Krishna was only seven years old, so there is no question
of lust. Krishna called the gopis forward from the Yamuna River to hand them their
garments, and saw their complete beauty. In doing so Krishna granted their long-cherished desire to have Him as their lover.
In the future He would further bestow mercy upon them in the Rasa dance. This pastime is mentioned in the Srimad-Bhagavatam, 10th canto, 22nd chapter.
