BUTTER THIEVES 1
Artist: Murlidhara

Krishna and Balarama gave much happiness to
the inhabitants of Vrindavana. They would go to different homes and steal butter and yogurt. The householders would chase
after Krishna and Balarama but they would run away to the arms of their mothers, Yashoda and Rohini. If Krishna and Balarama
got a chance They would break the pots holding the butter and yogurt and share it with Their friends and the monkeys. Here
Yashoda has caught Them in the act, but seeing Their beautiful faces, she could not chastise Them. For His pastime of stealing
butter Lord Krishna is called makanchora or the butter thief. Krishna and Balarama's
pastimes of stealing butter are mentioned in the Srimad-Bhagavatam, 10th canto, 8th
chapter.
